Maurice Hinson, NCTM, is the recipient of the 2005 MTNA-Frances Clark Keyboard Pedagogy Award for the keyboard pedagogy text Guide to the Pianist's Repertoire.
Now updated and expanded, this publication guides pianists of all abilities to piano solo literature. In an alphabetical listing by composer name, Hinson describes selected solo piano compositions of nearly 2,000 composers. He includes brief biographical sketches of the major composers and presents pertinent facts about many of the others that are relevant to the composers' pianistic and compositional approaches.
Hinson is one of America's most respected authorities on piano literature and the teaching of music to students at all levels. Among his outstanding achievements are the MTNA Achievement Award, the Outstanding Alumni Award from the University of Florida and the Citation of Merit Award from the University of Michigan School of Music Alumni Society.
As an active member of the American Liszt Society, Hinson was awarded its Medal of Excellence for identifying the lost Liszt Concerto in the Hungarian Style. He also was the recipient of the Liszt Commemorative Medal by the Hungarian Government and the Liszt Medal of the Hungarian Liszt Society.
