Executing large-scale changes on campus can take years, even decades. To make a difference, consider adopting a more grassroots approach: focusing on "small wins."
Pioneered in the mid-1980s by Karl Weick, the concept involves adopting practices that have an immediate effect. At the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators (NASPA) conference in Tampa in March, a panel of administrators discussed how small wins can be used in student affairs to shape administrative practices including working with students, staff development, intra-organizational relations, programming and assessment.
