MALAYSIAN gaming giant Genting Berhad has increased its stake in casino firm London Clubs International to 29.9 per cent, ensuring it will play a major role in the UK's new gambling and live entertainment market.

Already LCI's biggest shareholder, Genting has now increased its stake in the company to just below the 30 per cent point at which it would be obliged to bid for the entire group. The deal comes soon after the Malaysian firm's decision to increase its holdings in Britain's biggest casino operator, Stanley Leisure, to 20.3 per cent, sparking rumours of a takeover and merger of two companies.
