With stockmarket pointers largely green over the past year, corporate producers have felt the benefits as their clients reposition. And one of them is a revival in good, old-fashioned storytelling - linear style
Better news of the economy over the past 12 months, with city prices gaining strongly in the last quarter of 2004 and sentiment high, in turn brought better news for the corporate production business. The average number of staff on the books of companies we surveyed this year now stands at 19.5 compared to 16 last year, with the average number taken on temporarily per production also rising slightly to 6.4. As work has picked up, more have been taken on-staff while there's been no loss to the freelance community.
And work does seem to have picked up. The overall average turnover companies post is back over #4m after last year's dip to #3.22m. Not all the average #4m turnover comes from corporate work, though, with other activities like broadcast TV and commercials as ever in the frame. But this year straight corporate work accounts for #3.3m of that overall figure compared to only #2.6m last year.
That simple average belies a huge range of businesses, however, with only 30% of companies declaring above the average turnover. So our top 50 companies …
