On April 1, 2005, Kansas City Southern (KCS), a transportation holding company headquartered in Kansas City, Missouri, completed the purchase of controlling interest in TFM, S.A. de C.V. (TFM), a north south rail line serving the developing West Coast Port of Lazaro Cardenas and the heartland of Mexico. Combined with KCS' primary U.S. holdings, The Kansas City Southern Railway Company (KCSR), serving the southeastern and south central parts of the U.S., and The Texas Mexican Railway Company (Tex Mex), the bridge carrier between KCSR and TFM, today's KCS is strongly positioned to provide competitive and seamless rail transportation between the U.S. and Mexico.
