The Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) has unveiled a beta version of a new website, ESRC Society Today, offering academics, students and researchers free access to research the council has funded, alongside a growing database of information from other sources.
ESRC is the UK's largest funding agency for research and postgraduate training on social and economic issues. It is funded by the OST and DTI - to the tune of around [pounds sterling]102m in 2003/04 - with most of that going to researchers in awards and grants.
Its existing websites and services (including the Regard database of grants and research projects in progress) will all be combined under the new interface. A final launch, after any bugs have been ironed out, will take place at the end of May.
ESRC Society Today editor, Cormac Connolly, told IWR the new site is designed to widen the reach to a more diverse audience, and to create greater interaction.
