Apple proposes iPod settlement
Apple Computer will give iPod owners a $50 credit if they had battery problems with portable music players bought before May '04, under a proposed settlement. Apple's the target of a class-action suit alleging the iPod's rechargeable battery failed to live up to promotional claims and often failed after only 18 months. The refund would be a voucher applicable to any Apple purchase, excluding iTunes music. Shares fell 0.5% to 40.04.
Cisco, Yahoo in anti-spam pact
The network equipment maker and the Internet search giant are unveiling DomainKeys Identified Mail. The technology combines Cisco's cryptography-based Internet Identified Mail with Yahoo's DomainKeys, and determines if an e-mail sender is spoofing, or falsifying, his address. Cisco rose 1% to 19.88. Yahoo edged up 8 cents to 38.50.
