Jun. 3--The French tyre maker Michelin has won majority control of its tyre-making joint venture in Thailand after the decision by Siam Cement Plc to sell most of its holding in Michelin Siam Group.
Siam Cement said yesterday it would sell a 30 percent stake in Michelin Siam to its French partner, in line with the Thai conglomerate's strategy to sell off non-core businesses and focus on cement, construction materials, pulp and paper and petrochemicals.
The sale is taking place despite the fact that automotive tyre manufacturing has high potential due to the country's fast growing automotive industry.
