When researching a stock, it's always good practice to uncover anomalies about the company.
For example, a firm may have two quarters of triple-digit earnings increases with single-digit sales growth. Or a stock may be in a highly ranked industry group, but the breadth of leadership is suspect.

Both sets of ratings should be used when evaluating a stock. Each can reveal potential problems in a stock not revealed by the other.
For example, a company may have a high Earnings Per Share Rating due to strong earnings growth in recent quarters and a great three-year EPS growth rate, but its sales growth, profit margins and return on equity may be less impressive. In this case, a lower Fundamental Rating from Stock Checkup would offset the stock's strong EPS Rating.
