I used to think baseball players were over paid, until I saw what happened in New York earlier this year. Under intense heat from Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, Major League Baseball's golden boy Alex Rodriguez single-handedly sparked a resurgence in a lackluster N.Y. team by hitting 10 RBIs in one game--as if to remind his detractors he's worth all $25 million of his annual salary.
But for franchise players like Rodriguez, there really is no alternative: You either make a dominant contribution, or you're out. It's that simple. And while this certainly won't be the first, nor the last, analogy you'll ever hear between baseball and business, maybe it's about time …
