The Nasdaq closed 0.4% lower after a couple of rallies failed to bring the composite into positive territory Tuesday. The Nasdaq 100 fell 0.5%. Volume was heavier than Friday's preholiday level, but below average.
Despite the losses, the tally of leaders moving on volume favored the up side, with few high-rated stocks making the down list.
Netgear broke out of a 20-week base as the stock rose 75 cents to 19.67 on more than twice its average volume. The networking-equipment maker formed a short handle in the seven previous sessions. The firm has the best Overall and Technical Ratings of its group in the IBD Stock Checkup at investors.com.
Autodesk cleared a 21-week cup pattern to mark an all-time high. The stock, which closed at the high for the session, advanced 1.43 to 39.58. The design-software publisher was featured in the May 9 Stocks In The News column.
Dynamic Materials reached another all-time high, jumping 3.52 to 43.80. The stock broke out of a cup-with-handle base May 23 and has rallied 24% from its buy point of 35.28. The company's ...
