When looking for a mutual fund, you might want to consider size.
Too few assets can be a red flag, especially if a fund has been around awhile and remains tiny.
A look at the performance of large and small funds tracked by Lipper showed that those with assets of $100 million or more tend to do better than those with less.
You're less likely to make oversized gains in a fund with less than $100 million in assets.
The study covered the five- and 10-year periods ended Dec. 31.
The average diversified stock fund showed similar patterns for both periods.
