Jun. 1--The country's current account posted a deficit of $1.6 billion in April, with a trade deficit of $1.76 billion due in part to soaring import costs as a result of high oil prices, the Bank of Thailand said yesterday.
Overall economic activity slowed in April, according to Suchada Kirakul, senior director for the central bank's Domestic Economy Department.
The April deficit will likely force the central bank to revise downward its 2005 projections, which currently call for a current account surplus of $1-2 billion.
