May 30--South Carolinians get their first crack at accessing their free credit reports starting Wednesday -- but some may find online access elusive.
By law, the nation's three credit agencies must offer consumers free annual access to their credit reports. The rollout started in the West and has moved East. North Carolina residents will gain access Sept. 1.
The Federal Trade Commission is overseeing the program, including a central Web site, toll-free number and address run by the nation's three major credit agencies.
Yet consumers who use Google or other Internet search engines may not see the official site at first…
