Sarasota Christian School graduate Matthew Fisk will begin college in August at the University of Miami as a sophomore.

He earned 27 college credits in English, math, law and science through a dual enrollment program with Manatee Community College.

"It lets you take the classes you need to take, like introductory math, before you get there," said Matthew, 18, who is at the top of his class with a 4.3 grade-point-average. "It's kind of nice."

Matthew had a choice of attending schools in the northern part of the country but settled on Miami because its close to home, and he's not ready to live in a cold-weather state.
