As a young teen, Katrina De La Vega refused to let the rude and insensitive comments about her Cuban heritage stop her from making the most of her high school experience.

Instead, the Florida native launched a new organization at Venice High School, the Accepting Diversity Forum. The group welcomed all those who are seen as, or feel, different from the majority.

"It's a support group for the underdogs," said Katrina, who treasures her Cuban roots.

Katrina credits many teachers at VHS for their support during her years at the school.
