Honolulu clothier Dwight Spacek got into the men's clothing business at an exciting time -- when American men were becoming increasingly interested in what they wore.
"I was young and committed, and excited about what I was doing," said Spacek, who started Altillo, a menswear retail outlet, in 1979 on Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki.
The company name is fictitious, Spacek said, but it's convenient when things go wrong: "We just blame it on Altillo."
But problems -- at least major ones -- have been relatively few, and the business now operates two stores, one in Ala Moana Center and the other in Kahala Mall. Together the two outlets will have 1992 sales of slightly less …
