PUNTA GORDA -- The city's first major reconstruction project since Hurricane Charley will face a test Wednesday, as the City Council debates plans for a 204-unit waterfront hotel complex.

The Harbor Inn Resort & Yacht Club would go on a vacant lot once occupied by a Holiday Inn between the U.S. 41 bridges.

Developer Joe Suriol's plans include 90 traditional hotel units, a 114-unit condominium hotel and an 83-slip marina. He would help the city realize the vision of a downtown riverwalk by dedicating a strip of waterfront land to the public.
