One of the major tenets underlying women's studies is that through creation and dissemination of appropriate "literature," be it print or media in its many forms, we can promote and improve our understanding of ourselves, each other, and the society and cultures that have and continue to shape us all. As global communication has increased awareness of global issues facing women around the world, so has a better understanding of the commonalities shared among all women. Though there are many challenges yet to be overcome, we are fortunate in the wealth of amazing resources at our disposal.

Video documentaries give us a glimpse into women's personal lives. They allow us to reexamine our assumptions and challenge our beliefs with insight into struggles we otherwise might not imagine and help us recognize that many of the issues we face locally are shared by countless others worldwide. They engage us in a global dialog and encourage us to develop an interest in lives outside our own. They are compelling in ways that print formats rarely achieve and often illustrate not only the subject matter but also the achievements of the women who create …
