Palm Beach Gardens pitcher Chris Volstad figured the Class 6A state baseball tournament had to beat sitting through three hours of name-calling at his school's graduation ceremonies Friday morning, especially considering his last name begins with the letter "V."

Instead, the 6-foot-7 graduate found Pembroke Pines Flanagan just as eager to send him on his way to college or a career in professional baseball -- with the letter "L."
