May 27--SAN FRANCISCO -- The University of California's pursuit of the Los Alamos Lab management contract was made official Thursday with an 11-1 vote by regents.
The decision was no surprise after two key regent committees voted Wednesday to recommend a bid for the New Mexico weapons lab that UC has run since 1943. And UC has been preparing for months as if it would bid.
But reasons to vote for the bid, and UC's chances were bolstered Thursday when defense giant Northrop Grumman announced it will not bid.
