The central bank left interest rates unchanged at 5.5% for a second month in a row on May 4th. The decision was widely expected following data showing inflation was contained.
A private survey showed that Australian newspaper job advertising in April rose by 7.3% m-o-m following a 4.6% decline in March. The survey also showed that job advertising for the month was 3.1% higher than April 2004. However, the ANZ survey said that the pace in hiring could soon cool as the trend remained negative at -0.3% because of a fall in newspaper job advertisements in the first few months of 2005.
