May 25--New York City is star-struck.
It is also $300 million richer, thanks to a slew of movies being filmed on streets and in studios, lured in part by recent city and state tax credits. Since January, the additional production work has created jobs for 6,000 residents, Katherine Oliver, commissioner of the Mayor's Office of Film, Theatre & Broadcasting, said yesterday.
There's no benchmark to compare the increase against, since the "Made in NY" incentive program began this year, but Oliver called the number "impressive."
