Wailea Resort Co. Ltd. is shooting for a major upgrade as a Maui golf destination with a $17 million clubhouse being built in conjunction with its third 18-hole course.
"The company is making a major commitment to golf," said Barry A. Rand, project planning manager for developer Wailea Resort, which is owned by an affiliate of Shinwa Golf Group of Japan. Since purchasing the property from Alexander & Baldwin Inc. in 1989, Wailea Resort estimated its investment in golf and related facilities to be $80 million.
