SIR: Rob Foot's "The Left's Descent into the Abyss" (March 2005) touched me. Like him, I was once one of them, piously, even aggressively.

The scales began to fall from my eyes when I was Counsel Assisting the Agent Orange Royal Commission, chosen perhaps because, like Phillip Evatt, I was of the Left.
