Azeri Light heads for Batumi.(Caspian)

The BP-led AIOC group plans to start shipping Azeri Light crude by rail to the Georgian Black Sea port of Batumi from June, pending the start-up of the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) line.

Crude will be sent to Batumi by rail rather than moved by pipeline to Novorossiysk, AIOC president David Woodward said in Baku recently. Around 73,000 b/d of Azeri Light is shipped to Novorossiysk but AIOC does not specify how much of this will end up going to Batumi.

The Novorossiysk route is being used to accommodate rising output from AIOC's Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli (ACG) contract area in Azerbaijan ahead of the planned start-up of the BTC pipeline later this year. The main …
