May 18--Some big-ticket optional items were pared from Carmel's $10 million city budget by consensus of the Carmel City Council on Tuesday and the council has scheduled a final hearing and budget-adoption meeting May 26.
The council decided, for the time being, not to include $100,000 requested by the Community Housing Trust of Monterey County to build a fund to finance affordable-housing purchases, and $100,000 to $200,000 sought by the Monterey County Convention and Visitors Bureau for countywide tourism promotion.
The council was more receptive to funding the city's promotional efforts.
