Webstore is the kind of tool that will help a printer work more efficiently, ease the flow of work and cement customer relationships in the process
By Tom Hawkins
At the risk of stating the obvious, times are tough. Competition is fierce and clients want more for less.
Rather than bemoan their lot in life, smart printers are arming themselves with the latest technological tools to battle against these pressures. Not necessarily the kind of tools that will magically generate business out of nowhere, but rather the kind that will help them work more efficiently. The kind that ease the flow of work and cement customer relationships in the process.
One such tool is Webstore from Pelagon, an online ordering program based on Microsoft's .Net architecture. Already in use at a number of printers across the UK, the program provides an automated hub for estimating, ordering, proofing, printing and archiving digital jobs.
On the surface Webstore is designed to automate some of the stages in job quotation and submission. At a deeper level, it replaces the short term, job by job customer approach with a system to streamline and unify client information.
