Most patients with coeliac disease are discharged from the gastroenterology clinic once the diagnosis is confirmed, and then the GP is responsible for continuing care. That is where this chart will become a valuable asset.

An annual medication review is a good time to follow up on these patients. Compliance is variable and depends on many factors, and a patient's occupation is one factor that can make strict adherence to a gluten-free diet difficult.

Unfortunately poor compliance for whatever reason predisposes patients to osteoporosis, nutritional deficiencies and gastrointestinal malignancy.
