May 4--Senator Sophon Supapong has made "distorted and misleading" statements about oil policy and must take responsibility for confusing the public and discrediting the Energy Ministry, said Metta Banturngsuk, director-general of the Energy Policy and Planning Office (EPPO).
Mr Sophon, a former president of Bangchak Petroleum, has waged a campaign over the past several weeks, accusing PTT Plc and several ministry executives, including Mr Metta, of conflict of interest in their jobs, and charged they have gained personal benefit from the government's decision to raise diesel prices by three baht per litre on March 23.
