WASHINGTON, May 3 (UPI) -- Christopher Skaggs, a 13-year-old from Colorado Springs, was in so many ways representative of many young Americans. In eighth grade he played football, had acne and experienced mood swings his parents attributed to pubescent hormones. Christopher also suffered from depression and smoked marijuana with friends, a combination Drug Czar John Walters, the director of the Office of National Drug Control Policy, says is increasingly common among teens.
"We are especially worried about the growing and compelling evidence from researchers around the world that regular marijuana use can contribute to depressions, suicidal thoughts and schizophrenia," Walters told reporters at a news conference on Tuesday.
