Chip sales rise on cellular usage
Worldwide semiconductor sales rose 13.2% to $55.3 bil in Q1 on better than anticipated demand for wireless handsets, personal computers and consumer electronics, said the Semiconductor Industry Association, which now thinks previous forecasts for flat yearly sales may have been overly cautious. But sales rose only 0.4% sequentially, the lowest gain since July '03.
