The Nasdaq composite finished a choppy week on a good note with a gain of 0.9% in higher volume Friday. The index closed 0.6% lower for the week.
Micros Systems leapt 5.94 to 39.65 in more than four times normal trade. The maker of point-of-sale software said it expects to meet analysts' forecast of per-share earnings of 43 cents for the fourth quarter, which ends June 30.
CNS bolted 17%, or 2.54, to close at 18.84 in triple the usual turnover. The consumer health care products maker said late Thursday that fiscal fourth-quarter earnings grew to 28 cents per share, up 1,300% from the year-earlier quarter. The maker of consumer health care products such as Breathe Right nasal strips and FiberChoice supplements earned 93 cents per share for the year, up 58%.
Semiconductor designer Microsemi jumped 1.09 to 16.90 in more than double normal traffic. After Thursday's close, the company said fiscal second-quarter profit advanced 129% to 16 cents per share. CEO James Peterson said increased operational efficiencies were partly behind the increase.
