It's clear as mud -- semiconductor sales will go up this year. Or down.
Executives at chip companies such as Intel and QuickLogic are upbeat, saying they foresee chips sales picking up as the year goes on.
Many analysts who cover the field say sales will slow down as the year goes on.
Sure, companies and analysts often disagree. Executives often are cheerleaders, while analysts are paid to look at things with a critical eye. But often their disagreement is much more subtle.
Which group is right?
Neither. So says the Semiconductor Industry Association, the chip industry's biggest trade group. It's sticking with its forecast, made in October, that chip sales this year will be flat with last year's $213 billion figure.
