Refining profit drop tars Chevron
The No. 2 U.S. oil company earned $1.28 a share in Q1, up 4% but 10 cents under views after downtime at several plants cut refining revenue by 36%. ChevronTexaco's revenue rose 24% to $41.61 bil. Higher oil and gas prices boosted earnings from exploration and production 20% higher. Shares rose 1.5% to 52.
** Anadarko Petroleum, one of the world's largest independent oil and gas companies, reported earning $2.05 per share, up 32% from a year ago and 5 cents over views. Revenue rose 5% to $1.53 bil.
