Apr. 29--As detectives interviewed the stepfather who was the target of bullets that struck down a 7-year-old boy outside his school Wednesday afternoon, police searched for the gunman while the victim fought for his life.
Second grader Jerran Parkes was in stable condition in the intensive-care unit at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, police said. He was shot in the head and side as he walked to his stepfather's van outside Ellwood Elementary School in East Oak Lane.
Witnesses said the stepfather, Derrick Foster, 39, ran toward the boy, cried out, "Oh, my God," and drove away in his bullet-riddled van. The vehicle was found a few blocks away.
The shooting was drug-related, police said, and Foster had been shot by the same man, known by the nickname Fox, about 1 1/2 years ago. Fox, investigators say, is a member of a violent drug…
