Apr. 28--A second grader from Ellwood Elementary School in East Oak Lane was in critical condition last night after being shot in the head by a gunman who was apparently aiming for his stepfather, officials said.
In the latest shooting near a city school, Jerran Parks, 7, was hit while walking with his stepfather to their blue minivan on the 6600 block of 12th Street shortly after school was dismissed about 3:10 p.m., Police Commissioner Sylvester M. Johnson told reporters.
According to police and witnesses, a gunman dressed in black began shooting in the direction of the stepfather. Jerran collapsed in front of the Oak Lane Branch of the Free Library; his stepfather apparently was not wounded.
