Appearing to get tough in demanding higher graduation rates for varsity athletes, the NCAA sent Academic Progress Rate (APR) data from 2003-04 to every Division I school's CEO recently. The reports give each school its overall APR for the past year, as well as APRs for each NCAA championship sport the school sponsors.
About 7% of all athletics teams will be subject to financial aid restriction penalties beginning in 2005-06, according to projections. More than 50% of all Division I schools would have at least one team subject to that penalty.
