Like most women, Dr. Belinda C. Anderson took an indirect path to becoming top banana at the Virginia Union University in Richmond VA. Remembering the challenges, the first female president admitted: "Sometimes I wonder to myself 'Why did I want to do this?'"
In hindsight, Anderson offered both lighthearted and serious lists of "Top Ten Reasons Why I'd Want to Do This" to state coordinators of the American Council on Education's network of women in higher education at their annual meeting, which preceded the ACE national conference in Washington DC in February.
