Founder of North Carolina mortgage-insurance firm to retire.

Apr. 27--Darryl Thompson has guided Triad Guaranty Inc. from a business startup in 1987 to a leader in the mortgage-insurance industry.

Yesterday, Thompson gave notice that he would retire as the Winston-Salem company's chief executive and president within the next year, as soon as a successor was found. Thompson will retire with more than 33 years in the industry.

"I wanted to give the company time to search for the right person, whether internally or externally, and I want to leave here confident that there is leadership in place to take it to the next level," Thompson said.
