VENICE -- The Venice City Council will vote today on whether to approve the concept for a $2.7 million park project on the grounds of a former waste-water plant along Caspersen Beach.

While residents at first embraced the idea of turning the industrial site into a park, the plan now faces opposition from the Venice Taxpayers League and the Venice Neighborhoods Coalition.

Members of the groups fear the park will turn into a noisy, congested "amusement park" instead of a relaxing respite.
