Apr. 22--A tentative settlement on a four-year contract reached early Thursday morning has averted a strike by about 250 union workers at three Jersey Shore nursing homes.

The workers, who include registered nurses, certified nursing assistants and dietitians, are expected to vote on the contract as early as Monday, said Milly Silva, president of Local 1199 of the Service Employees International Union.

The employees, who had warned they would go on strike Tuesday if a settlement wasn't reached, work at Avante at Red Bank, Atlantic Coast Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Lakewood and Crystal Lake Healthcare and …
