Those sneaky Monarchs have muscled their way into the District 2-5A mix.

Manzano, not known for softball prowess, is tied with powerhouse La Cueva for first place in the district at 7-1.

Manzano (13-4) defeated La Cueva 5-3 in nine innings earlier this season but lost to Del Norte. La Cueva has defeated Del Norte twice.

The stage is set for Saturday's Manzano vs. La Cueva doubleheader at Manzano, which will likely be the matchup to decide the district champion.
