SPRINGFIELD, Ill. _ Standing before the new Abraham Lincoln Museum, President George W. Bush and a parade of leaders praised the 16th president Tuesday as a man whose words and principles still inspire the world.
"Abraham Lincoln has taken on the element of myth and, in this case, the myth is true," Bush said. "In the character and genius of this man, we see all that America can be."
Most of the speakers used Lincoln's own words, culling from his storied wisdom and wit. They called the $90.1-million museum a fitting tribute and engaging forum on the life of the Rail-Splitter. Bush, who received a quick tour before speaking, called the museum superb.
