Apr. 16--Prospects for employment in North Carolina improved slightly in March, but employment officials said yesterday that companies remain cautious about hiring.
The N.C. Employment Security Commission reported that the state's jobless rate decreased to 5.2 percent from 5.4 percent in February. It is the 11th consecutive month that the state's unemployment rate has been at or below the national rate, which was also 5.2 percent in March.
The commission said that there were 14,472 more workers in the state last month. There also was a 10,734 decrease in state residents considered unemployed, to 220,776.
