CHARLOTTE COUNTY -- While thousands of hurricane-weary homeowners wait months for concrete roofing tiles, the materials used to waterproof some of their houses are succumbing to the elements.
Those roofs may no longer be watertight when shipments of tiles finally arrive, Charlotte County and Punta Gorda officials fear.
Homeowners who ask for concrete roofing tile today will wait at least six to eight months for their shipments to arrive, suppliers say. By the time the tiles arrive, the warranty on the roof's waterproof covering -- or underlayment -- may have run out.
