When Roseanne Barr took the stage at the dopey TV Land Awards last month to accept an award, she said, by way of explaining that she was grateful for the recognition, "Even though I'm slim, my ego is still morbidly obese." It was an acknowledgment both of the entertaining monstrousness of show-business personalities and of the tabloid tracking of the ups and downs of her poundage over the years.
