Apr. 8--Looking to keep up with the competition in Internet-based phone service, Verizon Communications Inc. launched lower-cost calling plans to its Virginia and national subscribers this week.
VoiceWing, a service that connects phones through a high-speed Internet connection, will be offered at a new cost of $19.95 a month for 500 minutes of local and U.S. long-distance calling.
When VoiceWing was introduced nationwide in July, spokeswoman Bobbi Henson said, it had been offered with unlimited service for $29.95 a month. That service and rate are still available to customers.
