Despite its title, Teaching Information Skills - Theory and Practice is not just concerned with the teaching of information literacy, but the process of teaching and learning more generally.
It could be argued that this book applies to teaching in a non-LIS environment. This is not a criticism, however, but more an observation that the effective teaching of information skills requires a deeper understanding of learners' needs, the theories of teaching and the value of proper assessment.
Both the theoretical and practical aspects are expertly considered in each chapter of the book - for example, the psychological aspects of learning, theories of motivating different types of learner, and auditing in order to understand learners' real needs. The book makes reference to a broad corpus of knowledge from educational experts and psychologists.
