Michael Gorman, president-elect of the American Library Association, has caused a stir with an article entitled "Revenge of the Blog People" in the February issue of Library Journal.
His unprecedented diatribe began with a searing indictment: "A blog is a species of interactive electronic diary by means of which the unpublishable, untrammelled by editors or the rules of grammar, can communicate their thoughts via the web" (see box for more).
The outburst followed a bruising that Gorman had taken at the hands of bloggers over views he had expressed against Google's digitisation. His response has aroused a debate over the value of blogging for information ...
